Honey soy sauce

It is a teriyaki sauce recipe minus the rice wine. This can be used as sauce for a stir-fry, dipping sauce and it can also be used as a teriyaki marinade. It's kid-friendly and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

4 clv garlic (or to taste, peeled and minced)
1 T ginger (or to taste, freshly minced ginger)
2⁄3 c sauce (soy sauce)
2⁄3 c honey (or to taste)
2 T olive oil (optional)

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients in a medium sized bowl.

Use as it is as sauce for a stir-fry or glaze for a roast.

Heat in a saucepan and reduce a little to serve as side sauce.

If using as marinade, pour half the sauce over the food to season. Let the food marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Cook the food. Reduce the rest of the honey soy sauce a little and serve as sauce on the side.

Notes

You can use this honey and soy sauce as teriyaki marinade for chicken or salmon, the two more common foods to cook in a teriyaki fashion.

Variations

To give more kick to the sauce (for pre-teens on) , increase the amount of ginger, alternatively, add ground pepper or chili flakes to the sauce.

To make this honey soy sauce into a full teriyaki, for teens and adults, add 2/3 cup mirin (rice wine) or semi-sweet sherry and reduce the honey by half to 1/3 cup.
