Nori sushi
Nori sushi is a kind of sushi that a lot of people really love. It's made by rolling special sushi rice and your favorite stuffings, like veggies or cooked seafood, inside a sheet of nori. Nori is a kind of edible seaweed that looks like a dark green, almost black, paper. It's super yummy and fun to eat!
Ingredients
Instructions
Put a sheet of nori on your sushi rolling mat.
Wet your hands with a little water (this keeps the rice from sticking to your hands), then grab a handful of your vinegared rice and spread it evenly over the nori. Leave about 1 inch at the top without any rice.
Choose your favorite fillings and line them up in a row in the center of the rice.
Now comes the fun part – rolling the sushi! Lift the edge of the mat closest to you, and roll it over the ingredients to start the sushi roll.
Keep rolling, squeezing gently but firmly, until you reach the end of the nori sheet. The 1-inch edge without rice will stick to the outside of the roll and seal it up.
With an adult's help, use a sharp knife to slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
Repeat steps 2-7 for as many sushi rolls as you'd like to make.
Enjoy your homemade nori sushi!
Notes
You can find dried nori sheets in most grocery stores. Read the instructions because nori sheets usually need soaking to make them flexible.
Use your favorite fillings, lkie:
- Sliced cucumber
- Sliced avocado
- Cooked shrimp
- Cooked crab sticks
- Cooked chicken strips (cool before using)
You will work better with a sushi rolling mat (if you don't have one, a clean kitchen towel can work too!)
A kid can make nori sushi, as long as they ask an adult for help with cutting ingredients and using the rolling mat, if needed.
The best part about sushi is you can mix and match fillings to make your favorite combinations! Cooking is also more fun and safer when you do it with an adult. Always ask for help if you're not sure about something.
